Cromemco's System 100 and System 300 computers
The high performance solutions.
The System 100 and System 300 computers give you new and exciting capabilities in microcomputers. And these capabilities are achieved within the context of industry standards, such as the UNIX System V operating system, Ethernet, IEEE-696 bus, and generic 32-bit processor, so you have both flexibility and performance. Consequently, these systems can accomplish tasks that once required much larger systems and can give you that performance much more efficiently.
System 100 Series (CS-100)
The CS-100 system is an 8-slot, desk-top system. It can be expanded to 4M bytes of RAM memory. A number of standard configurations are available (see back page) for your choice of RAM capacity, built in hard disk capacity (50MB), and error-correcting memory.
The CS-100 includes the high speed STDC hard disk controller which significantly reduces disk access time and speeds up your operations. It also includes the XPU processor which means you can take advantage of the advanced technology of 32-bit processing power.

System Configuration Notes
Cromemco systems without ECC memory can be expanded in memory capacity in 256Kb increments by plugging additional 256KZ cards into the system. Systems with ECC can be expanded in either 512Kb or 2048Kb increments by plugging additional 512MSU or 2048MSU cards into the system.
Hard disk storage can be expanded by adding the SMDI controller board and interfacing to standard SMD disk drives, which are available from several vendors.
The number of users can be expanded up to 16 users by adding OCTART boards, which will accommodate a combination of up to eight users or serial devices per board. (Use one board for eight users, two boards for 16 users.)
Cartridge tape storage is available with Cromemco's CTD tape drive. The CTD connects to the 64FDC interface card and therefore requires no additional board slots. Reel-to-reel tape storage can be added by using the TDS tape drive, which includes the IOP and CSP boards required for operation. The TDS interface requires two board slots.

System V Board Level Details
The XPU is a high performance 32-bit processor board.
The XMM board provides demand-paging memory management (with 4K pages), and many advanced features, such as scatter loading, that increase processing speed and optimizes memory utilization. Context switching is done in a single instruction time for fast response when switching from user to user, or task to task. The result is that multiple users can be added to the system with minimum degradation of system performance.
The 2048MSU board is a 2 megabyte RAM board that is incorporated into certain models of both the System 100 and System 300. In addition, 2048MSU boards may be added to incrementally increase the RAM in the system to as much as 16 megabytes.
The STDC is a high performance disk controller that includes a dedicated microprocessor and a 4-track cache memory for high speed operation. It automatically verifies information written to the disk with a read-after-write cycle to assure data integrity.
The OCTART board is an optional unit for expanding the number of users or adding serial devices to either the System 100 or System 300. The OCTART has its own processor and memory for minimum system overhead. Each OCTART has 8 serial channels, and up to 16 users can be accommodated by adding two OCTART boards to a system.
In addition, Cromemco offers many other boards that can be plugged into the CS-100 or CS-300 to extend the capabilities of the systems to meet your needs. These extended capabilities options are available to meet most applications and requirements: Graphics Communications Memory expansion Multi-users Computation acceleration Networking Instrumentation and Control Magnetic storage expansion
Reliability increases productivity.
Cromemco's reputation for equipment reliability has been earned through the performance of over 50,000 systems that are now installed around the world. Cromemco is one of the few companies to offer error-correcting memory in microcomputer systems as a further commitment to equipment reliability. We also build in features such as read-after-write for checking the integrity of data during write-to-disk operations. And the reliability of Cromemco systems is assured on an on-going basis by a factory quality program which fully meets military quality standard 9858A.
Extensive software support.
The System 100 and System 300 systems include the UNIX System V operating system and the CROMIX operating system, Cromemco's proprietary operating system. When you buy your computer, these operating systems are already installed on the hard disk, so you don't have any complicated installation procedures.
UNIX System V is the standard for the new generation of high-performance microcomputers and is installed on all CS-100 and CS-300 systems. Included with our UNIX are the highly-acclaimed Berkeley enhancements, including CSHELL, TERMCAP, UUCP, and VI. Versatile and powerful, UNIX provides the multi-user, multi-tasking features required by today's advanced applications and opens the door to a very large library of software for your system.
Cromemco's proprietary operating system, CROMIX, is also included on all systems for those users with dedicated application programs and to enable our current system users to transport their existing software to the new systems.
We also offer a full range of program development tools and we support programs written in all the popular computer languages, including C, Fortran 77, Basic, Pascal, and Cobol. In addition, we offer several industry-leading applications programs, such as the Informix and Unify data base management systems.
In brief, the System 100 and System 300 computers are fully supported by programming and applications software, and the broad line of software for the UNIX operating systems is expanding every day, so you can depend on an even larger base of software in the future.
